Francis determined to be role model
SCHOOLBOY sensation Javon Francis is determined not to let the star status attention from the IAAF World Championships affect his aim to be a role model for students.
“It has been a humbling experience I am trying hard not to become overwhelmed by the attention,” said Francis.
The Calabar student made the comment on Monday almost a month after returning from Moscow where he ran an impressive anchor leg to help Jamaica secure a silver medal in the 4x400m relay.
The run has been described by many experts as one of the best performances by a local athlete in recent times.
“With all of this attention I am fully aware that a lot of students will be looking up to me as a role model, and I am determined to be that example for them (students),” said Francis.
On Monday, principal of the school Albert Corchor said a special event is being planned to honour the student for his performance.
“The school is definitely planning an event this month to congratulate the young athlete on his performance, as we are all proud of his achievement,” a teacher at the school told the Jamaica Observer.
