GLASGOW, Scotland (CMC) — Six players from the Caribbean have been selected on the list of 10 ‘New World Netball Stars’ following the International Netball Federation’s World Youth Netball Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, last weekend.
Jamaica, who captured the bronze medal, was rewarded with four selections, while Trinidad and Barbados each had one player on the list.
The four Jamaicans are captain and goal defender Vangelee Williams, goalkeeper Shamera Sterling, centre Khadijah Williams, and goal attack Thristina Harwood.
Samantha Wallace from Trinidad and Tobago, and Barbadian Shonica Warton were the other picks from the Caribbean.
“I am feeling really happy about it,” said 21-year-old Williams.
“I think that the hard work that I have put in leading into the championships paid off and I am glad that they recognise it.”
The other players on the top 10 list are Chelsea Lewis of Wales; South Africa’s Lisa-Marie Wiese; Natalie Haythorn Waite of England, and Fiji’s Raijieli Daveua.
The junior Sunshine Girls retained their bronze medal after outclassing archrivals England 52-33 in the third place play-off.
