Petrojam, Scotiabank to contest Business House Div 1 final
DEFENDING champions Petrojam and former champions Scotiabank Group will meet in the Division One final of the 2013 Western Sports-sponsored KSA Business House Football Competition on Sunday at Emmet Park, St George’s College.
The teams advanced to the final after they defeated Wisynco 4-0, and Jamaica Customs 2-0, respectively, on Sunday at the Red Stripe Football Field. Petrojam took the lead in the fourth minute as captain Jothan Watson beat goalkeeper Kelso Cousins from close range.
Petrojam took over the game in the second half and got the other goals from Jarron Richards in the 51st, Fabian Reid in the 74th, and Andrew Palmer in the 85th minute.
Petrojam will seek to continue dominating the KSA Business House football competition, having won the Division Two title in 2009, followed by the Division One title since 2010. They will be going for their fourth straight Division One title on Sunday.
Scotiabank defeated Jamaica Customs in the second semi-final and will play in their second straight final against Petrojam, the team which defeated them on penalties last season.
Coach Neville ‘Bertis’ Bell is trying to win his first Business House football title in his first season as coach of Scotiabank, but he will have his hands full in trying to defeat this Petrojam team which is undefeated in all competitions since 2011.
Scotiabank Group took the lead in the 14th minute, when a cross from the right flank by Kemar Cummings eluded goalkeeper Horatio Nelson, and Anthony Greenland played the ball across the goal to Jamoy Sibblies to tap it into the goal.
Cummings made it 2-0 in the 36th minute when he outjumped defender Terrence Allen and headed past a hapless Nelson in goal.
Numerous missed chances by Sibblies, Donovan Hibbert and Anthony Greenland, plus excellent goalkeeping from Nelson ensured that the half ended 2-0.
Both teams wasted good scoring opportunities in the second half, as goalkeeper Damion Crooks of Scotiabank prevented Andrew Gordon and Ricardo Stern from scoring in the closing moments of the match with two excellent saves.
The final for both divisions will be played at Emmet Park, St George’s College, with Jamaica Fire Brigade and first-time entrant Metrodade Protection and Security meeting in the Division Two final at 1:30 pm.
