‘We’re still in it,’ declares Capt Burrell
CAPTAIN Horace Burrell, Jamaica Football Federation president, speaking at the launch of the Flow Champions Cup by Columbus Networks at the Barbican playing field yesterday, declared that Jamaica’s chances of qualifying for the finals of World Cup of Football in Brazil in 2014 are alive and well.
“A lot of persons I know are thinking that we’re out, but we are not out. We are still in it. Have you ever noticed that Jamaicans do much better when our backs are against the wall? Yes, we do. I will agree with everyone that our backs are currently against the wall, but believe me, come Friday at 2100 hours (9:00 pm Panama time) the real game is going to be on, and I will encourage as many persons as possible to visit the game,” Burrell said.
“The cost going into Panama is US$800, that is inclusive of hotel accommodation, air and ground transportation and also match tickets. Do not ever miss that game, if you can, for it is going to be one of the most exciting games played by a Jamaican team,” he added.
Captain Burrell revealed that the team was invigorated with new blood and that the players who are already in the team will be re-energised and will be looking forward to the game on Friday.
The Jamaica Football Federation boss added that he was very optimistic and Jamaicans who are still in doubt should be “bearing in mind that Jamaicans respond better when the pressure is on”.
