Jamaica hosting Caribbean Wilson 12 & Under Tennis Champs
JAMAICA, along with six other countries, are currently participating in the 2013 International Tennis Federation (ITF)/Grand Slam Development Fund (GSDF) English Caribbean Wilson 12 and Under Central America and the Caribbean Tennis Confederation (COTECC) Team Championship, taking place from September 2 to 7 at The Liguanea Club.
Action in the one-week team championship begins each morning at 9:00.
The Team Championships is being held in Jamaica for the first time with the development event seeing teams from across the region competing against each other for a place in the Masters Event to be played in Monterrey, Mexico, from October 20 through to 26.
Other participating countries are The Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Guyana, St Lucia, and Suriname. For this week’s Team Championship, each team consists of two male and two female players and will play singles and doubles.
The teams (boys and girls) finishing in the top three final positions of this event will automatically qualify for the Masters Event, where there will be two teams from Mexico, the top three teams from the Central America (Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua in both boys and girls) and the top three teams from the English-speaking Caribbean.
Meanwhile, as host country, Jamaica have two teams entered in both the boys’ and girls’ events. The members of Jamaica’s teams are Damani Cain, John Azar, Michael Stephens, Jenna Harris, with the coach being by Thomas Plummer.
The girls are Karan Chatani, Giovannia Isaacs, Emma Dibbs, Mia Minott and are being coached by Sashalee Moyston.
