Perfect Neighbour returns to the track
DERBY and St Leger winner Perfect Neighbour is slated to run for the first time since his majestic performance in the Boom St Leger in early July when he decimated his fellow three-year-olds in the 10-furlong event.
This time Perfect Neighbour takes on Open Allowance company in what is definitely his sternest test to date over nine furlongs and 25 yards in the Nigel Nunes Memorial Cup. The Natural Selection – Desperate Housewife offspring races against seasoned campaigners — Time For Arms, Raging Prospect, Commanding Chief and former Derby winner Typewriter. This is only the second time in Perfect Neighbour’s 11-race career that he will be competing outside of his age group.
The top three-year-old will carry 117 lbs allowing weight to Raging Prospect (110 lbs); Uncle Donny (110 lbs); Exotic Gold (106 lbs) and Military Move (110 lbs). Topping the handicaps is Typewriter who has been allotted top weight of 126 lbs, while Commanding Chief carries 123 lbs.
Wayne DaCosta, trainer of Perfect Neighbour, says his charge has rested well and is ready for what he believes is a very difficult assignment.
“Perfect Neighbour got a well-deserved rest after his Classic campaign. He needed the rest to recharge himself for the latter part of the racing season. At present Perfect Neighbour is in good condition and I am pleased with what I have seen him do at exercise,” the champion trainer said.
Asked about Perfect Neighbour’s chances in the Nigel Nunes, DaCosta was coy in his response: “Without doubt this is his toughest race. Commanding Chief, Time For Arms, Typewriter, Raging Prospect, among others, are all good and seasoned horses. They have proven themselves while my horse is trying to do so. This race will be a true test of his ability.”
