Two defenders caught the eye of head coach Winfried Schafer and could be in the reckoning for possible selection to the Reggae Boyz’s squad following yesterday’s squad match at the JFF Training Centre at the UWI field.

However, the German refused to name the players who would have impressed him in the game which saw the Yellow team defeating the Green team 2-1.

“Two players played very well, but I cannot tell now because it is unfair to the other players,” reported Schafer.

“Our (Reggae Boyz) problem is in defence. Nosworthy (Nyron) is out. Two players looked very well in defence. They played without foul and opened with the first pass to midfield. Maybe one of the defenders come to us (national team). Today is not clear,” he added.

Meanwhile, new Arnett Gardens signee Andre Clennon opened the scoring for the Yellow team before Kaemmar Daley was given a gift by goalkeeper Richard McCullum and levelled the scores for the Green team, heading into the break.

Substitute Jermaine Woozencraft found the clincher late on for the Yellow team.

The impressive Clennon, who started on the yellow team, was switched to the Green team after the interval to partner Jermaine Anderson, a possible indication that he had caught the eyes of the coaching staff. Assistant coach Vin Blaine had a short discussion with Clennon at the half-time break.

Midfielder Damion Williams started in defence along with Linval Lewis and looked assured for the Yellow team. Adrian Reid, Montrose Phinn and Dicoy Williams started for the Green team in defence and all could be in the reckoning.

Veteran Wolry Wolfe pulled the strings in midfield for the Yellow team in a match in which few players stood out.

Coach Schafer did admit that he would love to see the players more as the one off game was inadequate.

Lamar Nelson, now at Waterhouse FC, did not show up for the squad match as he is reported injured.
