Petrojam retain Business House football KO title
PETROJAM continued their dominance of the KSAFA Business House Football Association Scotiabank Group Knock Out competition on Monday, winning the title for the second year in succession and their third overall.
The Marcus Garvey Road outfit overran the hitherto unbeaten 10-man Calvert Fitzgerald-coached Metrodade of Spanish Town 3-0 in the final at the D&G Oval.
Andrew Christie put Petrojam in front from a corner kick with the game just past the halfway mark of the first half, and Fabian Reid doubled the advantage 13 minutes from the break.
The second goal came as a result of a moment of indiscretion on the brink of the Metrodade defence danger zone by their defenders, who allowed Reid to hammer home a low shot past the goalkeeper.
However, the second session came with anxiety with moments of reckless decision-making which crept into Metrodade’s play, and 10 minutes inside the restart, they gave up a penalty through Liston James that put Petrojam farther ahead after David Stultz converted from the spot.
It was a goal that put the game out of the reach of the Division Two team and gave Division One team Petrojam their third lien on the coveted Business House KO competition.
Manager Robert Blake attributed success to “great team spirit”. Blake explained that the result is not just the doing of the manager and coach, but “it is seven of us who are involved in running the side”.
Coach Fitzgerald was very disappointed with the result. “We have played unbeaten all season and when it’s time to collect we turned up to play our worst game for the season. As you are well aware, things like this happen all the time, but we cannot give up. We have to continue to fight on in order to create more chances like this,” Fitzgerald added.
Referee Kevin Thomas and Keeble Williams and Rolonzo Bennett were the games officials.
