Lorne Kirlew having a good season
Young trainer Lorne Kirlew is having a really good season. His horses are always presented well and he has developed the knack of training winners on a consistent basis. When I’ve Been Chozen with Kuri Powell in the saddle won on Saturday for the third time from 22 lifetime starts, Kirlew was saddling his 14th winner for the year. That is a very good return for Kirlew, who we hope will continue to learn his trade and develop even further. Well done, Sir ‘Georgie’.
EL PODEROSO CONFIRMS GROWING STATUS
The status of the imported four-year-old chestnut colt El Poderoso is growing from race to race. Trained by Phillip Feanny, this invader easily beat a good field on Saturday over six and a half furlongs in very impressive fashion to notch back-to-back victories and secure the feature race of the day, the seventh running of the Seek Exercise Book trophy. Although it was obvious that even under the guidance of Winston Griffiths, El Poderoso was losing ground rapidly to Traditional Prince (Dane Nelson), he had done enough to secure another win. This one will be watched.
MAGNIFICENT SEEK
The weekend carnival of racing sponsored by Book Empire Limited, manufacturers of Seek exercise books, was quite outstanding. The compound of the race track was attractively branded and racegoers received timely assistance from the company with their back-to-school endeavours. The Seek-sponsored day is quietly becoming one of the better and more appealing promotions at the race track. Congrats to Bruce Baylis and his team.
