El Poderoso ‘Seeks’ trophy win today
BOOK Empire Ltd, local manufacturers of Seek Exercise books, begins a two-day book give-a-way bonanza during a 10-race card at Caymanas Park today.
The bonanza will end tomorrow at the same venue with Seek in conjunction with Caymanas Track Limited (CTL) and Azan Super Centre extending the give-a-ways by providing the racing public attending with ample discount prices to greatly ease their back-to-school woes.
The seventh running of the Seek Exercise Book Trophy for a purse of $1,00,000, of which Book Empire will contribute $250,000, will highlight the 10-race card.
Set among Open Allowance horses, the Seek Exercise Book Trophy feature has attracted an exciting field of 10 runners going 1,300 metres. The Seek Exercise Book Trophy headliner is the penultimate race on the programme and is set to go to post at approximately 4:55 pm with first post at noon.
Leading champion trainers Philip Feanny, who won the event last year, and Wayne DaCosta are positioned to have a strong hand in the outcome by fielding three runners apiece.
Feanny seems to have the stronger hand of the two, but the race looks designed for an upset result with the recent winner Uppa Tune trained by Ian Parsard and the consistent Palace Gold looking primed to cause anxious moments in the drive for the wire.
Nonetheless, the imported five-year-old chestnut horse Reasonable Press who won last year’s edition, is to be one of Feanny’s trump cards to repeat. The other is the Winston Griffiths-ridden El Poderoso, another imported chestnut colt who was a very good winner over the distance exactly one week ago.
His third entry Prince Andrew has not shown himself to be in the class of his two stablemates, but has been working very well and is light enough to cause some hairs to be raised.
It may never come down to any such situation for it will take a performance out of the top drawer to deny El Podersoso from repeating his performance of a week ago seeing that Griffiths has chosen to remain in the irons.
The present field is much better than the one El Podersoso beat on last and even up in class for this should be still good enough to continue his winning trend. His preparation was keen and coming in at 55.0kg will not be too heavy as his major rivals will also be close to him.
Reasonable Press, after failure in his last two races, will definitely want to return to his winning ways and with the 3.0kg claim from Orlando Foster to come in at 54.0kg could help his cause to register his third win of the season from his seven starts.
Uppa Tune showed that he is going places, and were he to be presented in a similar frame of mind as on last, the Feanny pair will really have some running to do to return the trophy to that stable for a second year.
Trainer Parsard said that he was quite pleased with the performance Uppa Tune after winning on August 1, but indicated that the four-year-old son of Concorde’s Tune does not always run as scripted.
However, from his last performance it showed that Uppa Tune seems to be settling down to his racing and should he be in another of his devastating running moods, then the Stakes record established by Saint Cecelia could be considerably lowered.
