Amateur fight card for Boys’ Town
AN eight-fight card featuring novice and amateur boxers takes place today at the Boys’ Town Sports Complex in St Andrew.
The card, which will see fighters in various weight divisions, is sanctioned by the Jamaica Boxing Board (JBB).
The first bout is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm. It takes place one week after the Kingsley Goodison Summer Boxing Clinic at the same venue.
Over 20 aspiring male and female boxers aged 10-17 participated in the August 12-16 camp which saw former boxers Sakima Mullings, Cladlyn Clarke and Linden Walker as instructors.
Goodison, head of the JBB’s welfare and development committee, Karl Goodison and former Boys’ Town and Jamaica cricketer/footballer Lloyd ‘Respic’ Morgan gave motivational speeches.
“I was pleased with the turnout and response of the participants.
“The programme went over well in terms of knowledge of the sport. Some have been involved in competition before so it wasn’t difficult getting the message across,” said Kingsley Goodison.
It was the third staging of the camp which was first held at Stanley Crouch Gym in central Kingston.
