CONCACAF gen sec happy with inspection of MoBay facilities
CONCACAF general secretary Enrique Sanz has expressed delight at a report emerging from a site inspection carried out by one of the confederation’s top agents of the Montego Bay Sports Complex, which will host the Under-17 Women’s Final in the resort town in two months’ time.
“We are very pleased with the reports from the initial site inspection in Jamaica in preparation for the CONCACAF Under-17 Women’s Championship and would like to thank Captain Horace Burrell, president of the Jamaica Football Federation, for his vision and support in this project,” the Colombian-born American said in a statement.
Sanz, meanwhile, noted that “there is still work to be done in the next two months to bring all of the facilities up to the standard required by this regional competition”.
“We are certain that the local organising committee, along with the great support of the local government spearheaded by Montego Bay’s Mayor Glendon Harris, will be able to deliver without any issues. The vast experience gained from having hosted a successful CONCACAF Men’s Under-17 Championship back in 2011 is tangible in every aspect of this operation,” said Sanz, one year in the job as CONCACAF’s chief administrator.
The inpection was carried out by Director of Operations of CONCACAF Manolo Zubiria, who visited last week to have a close-up of the progress of the preparations.
Zubiria did inspections of the Montego Bay Sports Complex, which will host matches in the tournament beginning October 30, as well as training venues and hotels for teams, match officials and CONCACAF staff.
Finally, he also attended the first meeting of the local organising committee established to guide the local preparations for the tournament. His Worship the Mayor of Montego Bay Councillor Glendon Harris, at the invitation of JFF boss Burrell, has agreed to chair the committee.
In attendance at the first meeting were representatives of the St James FA, Ministry of Health, Jamaica Constabulary Force, Jamaica Fire Brigade, MBJ Airport, St James Parish Council, Montego Bay Sports Complex, Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce, the Hanover FA, and the JFF.
