IAAF confirms J’can 4X400 women’s team disqualified
MOSCOW, Russia — The disqualification of the Jamaican women’s 4x400m team at the 14th IAAF World Championships at the Luzhniki stadium in Moscow has been upheld by the jury of appeals, rejecting an appeal by the Jamaican management staff.
In a decision handed down within the last 30 minutes it was confirmed that the team that was second in their semi-final heat this morning behind Russia has been thrown out.
Videos shown on the closed circuit monitors on the press tribune showed lead-off runner Rosemarie Whyte running on the line and stepping into the lane to her left on the final curve.
The following is the text of a release from the IAAF:
“The Jury of Appeal met to discuss the appeal of the Jamaican team against the disqualification of the women’s 4x400m relay in Round One, Heat Three for lane infringement. The appeal was rejected.
“The result stands, with Jamaica disqualified and the Ukraine advancing to the next round.
“The Ukrainian team had not filed a protest. It was the referee who, after seeing the video of the race several times, including on the giant video board in the stadium, decided to disqualify the Jamaican team.”
