Jamaica snag five Worlds medals — 3 gold so far
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica, up to Friday Day 7 of the 14th World Championships in Russia, Moscow, have won five medals – three gold one silver and a bronze.
The world’s fastest man Usain Bolt and teammate Nesta Carter were first on the Championship medal board for Jamaica, snagging gold and bronze respectively in the men’s 100M finals on August 11.
Bolt ran his season’s best time of 9.77 and Carter 9.95.
Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce then dominated the women’s 100M in a swift 10.71 seconds for the gold on August 12. Fraser-Pryce then returned to take the sprint double and Jamaica’s third gold medal in the women’s 200M, winning in 22.17 seconds on Day 7.
Jamaica’s fifth medal came from the young and arguably inexperienced 4X400M men’s relay team, who took the silver medal in the finals also on Day 7 Friday, August 15 in a season’s best 2:59.88, behind the United States.
Going into the penultimate Day 8 Jamaica has three finalists in the men’s 200m finals and three women in the 100M hurdles semi-finals.
And on Saturday, Day 9, medals in the men and women’s sprint relay are up for grabs.
