Jamaica’s trio Shelly-Ann, Hall, McLaughlin progress to 200m semis
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaicans Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Patricia Hall and Anneisha McLaughlin all progressed to the women’s 200 metre semi finals in the World Championships scheduled for later today at 10:45am Jamaica time.
Fraser Pryce made light work of the opposition in Heat 4 taking it in 22.78 seconds with Elyzaveta Bryzgina of the Ukraine second (22.84) and Trinidad’s Kai Selvon (23.14) third.
American Alison Felix also stamped her class on the field clocking 22.59 to win Heat 6, the fastest time in the qualifiers. McLaughlin was second in 22.78 with Myriam Soumare of France third (22.83).
Heat 3 saw Hall, third over the distance in Jamaica’s National Trials, also finishing third in her heat in 23.25 seconds. But she was promoted to second after Canadian Christen Emmanuel was disqualified. Shaunea Miller of the Bahamas (22.72) was first and Maria Belimpasakia of Greece (23.41) promoted to third.
Meanwhile Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare (22.79) ran a measured race to overtake ChaRonda Williams of the US (22.83) in the final strides and win Heat 2. Third was Kimberly Hyacinthe of Canada (23.19).
In the final Heat, 100 metre silver medallist Muriel Ahoure turned in a workmanlike performance to win in 22.66, the third fastest time. Second was Krystyna Stuy of Ukraine (22.86) from Jenoba Tarmoh of the US (22.88).
Mariya Ryemyen of the Ukraine clocked a hard working 22.63 seconds in Heat 5 to register the second fastest time in the qualifiers.
The first three in each heat and the three fastest losers progress to the semi finals.
