Kaliese Spencer in Jamaica’s 4x400m team
MOSCOW, Russia — After her shock disqualification in the first round of the women’s 400m hurdles, Jamaica’s Kaliese Spencer will get another chance to earn a medal when she joins the women’s 4x400m team in the first round set for Friday morning at the 14th IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia.
Spencer the 10th fastest ever in the event, had easily won her 400m hurdles heat in a season’s best 54.10 seconds on Monday but was later disqualified for breaching IAAF rule 168.7 (a) which states that if the athlete’s foot or leg is, at the instant of clearance, beside the hurdle (on either side), below the horizontal plane of the top of any hurdle, they will be disqualified.
However, after placing sixth in the 400m at the JAAA National Senior Championships Spencer was selected as part of the relay pool for the 4x400m and will join Christine Day, Rosemarie Whyte and Annastacia Leroy in the first round.
