Merritt captures 400m final, Kirani James seventh
KINGSTON, Jamaica – American Lashawn Merritt (43.74) emphatically won the men’s 400m final at the World Championship in Moscow Tuesday with team mate Tony McQuay second in a personal best 44.40.
Pre-race favourite Kirani James failed to defend his World title falling back in the straight to a disappointing seventh place in 44.99.
Dominican Luguelin Santos ran a season’s best 44.52 for third.
Belgian Jonathan Borlee also ran a season’s best 44.54 to finish fourth.
