Jamaicans Williams-Mills, Hall and McPherson through to 400m semis
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Novlene Williams-Mills was second in Heat 4 to Russian Kseniya Ryzhova (50.69) to book her place in the next round of the 400m at the World Championships underway in Moscow, Russia.
Another hometown girl, Antonina Krivoshapka, won the first Heat in 51.27 ahead of Ashley Spencer of the US. Caribbean representative Kenike Alexander of St Vincent was third and Omolare Omotoso of Nigeria fourth, sure to go through to the next round
Christene Ohurougu took the second Heat in 50.20 over American Natahsa Hastings. Marie Gayot of France was third and Amy Thiam of Senegal fourth.
In the third Heat Jamaica Stephanie McPherson (50.98) ended in second behind Francena McCrory of the US (50.56).
Top seeded Amantle Montsho (50.75) of Botswana won Heat 5 with Jamaica’s Patricia Hall (52.20) finishing third and certain to progress.
