Borzakovsky withdraws from World Champs
MOSCOW, Russia (AFP) — Yury Borzakovsky, the 2004 Olympic 800m champion, will miss the athletics World Championships in Moscow, Russia’s chief coach Valentin Maslakoiv said yesterday.
“Borzakovsky has recently caught a cold and had a fever for almost four days,” Maslakov told the press.
“He told me that he thinks he’ll be unable to produce a classy performance and decided to withdraw from competing at his home World Championships.”
At the last month’s Russian championships, the 32-year-old Borzakovsky insisted he was not planning on retiring at the end of this year.
