Bahamian athlete hoping to make amends in Moscow
MOSCOW, Russia (CMC) — Bahamian athlete Anthonique Strachan believes she stands a better chance of making a bigger impression at the IAAF World Championships starting in Moscow this weekend.
Strachan, the 2012 World Junior sprint double champion, is yet to make it to a global final at the senior level, despite two attempts.
Two years ago Strachan made her World Championships debut as a 17-year-old, and as her teenage years come to an end her exploits and confidence have grown.
“This World Championships I just want to have fun and hopefully make it to the final,” said Strachan, who celebrates her 20th birthday on August 20.
“…but I am more confident this year than in Daegu (2011 World Championships) and London (2012 Olympics) that I will make it to the final.”
Strachan is the fifth fastest over the half-lap event this year with 22.32 seconds.
“I give myself a chance by just focusing on one event,” said the five-time Carifta games gold medallist.
“I have a more positive look on life for this World Championships.”
Strachan has also expressed confidence that her Bahamian 4x100m team stands a better chance than last time.
