Krystal Tomlinson is Miss Jamaica Festival Queen
KRYSTAL Tomlinson, who wears the sash Miss Manchester, was crowned Miss Jamaica Festival Queen at Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in St Andrew on Saturday.
Tomlinson, a 22-year-old TV host, also walked away with three sectional prizes — Most Culturally Aware, Community Involvement and Most Poised.
She had high praises for the other contestants.
“The competition was intense and tight this year. All the contestants did exceptionally well. They should all feel proud of themselves and yes, they are queens, cultural queens of Jamaica,” she told the Jamaica Observer.
Parades of placards and banners were waved as she was being crowned.
Her talent piece, ‘The National Dish’, was well received. It asked why breadfruit was not part of Jamaica’s National Dish.
“My reign will be very fruitful. I would really like to do three things; one, to host a debate competition which will teach youths life skills such as critiquing information, ability to express themselves, and to listen attentively. Second, to work with individuals with disabilities and inform them about their rights as human beings, and thirdly, develop a mechanism for youth to develop an appreciation for research,” she told the Jamaica Observer.
