$250,000 for In The City Golf Programme
THE In The City Golf Programme, which is run by the Jamaica Golf Association (JGA), is $250,000 richer today after part proceeds of the Columbus Business Solutions AmCham Golf Classic 2013 was presented to the JGA.
The presentation was made by John Clear, vice-president at Columbus Business Solutions, and Becky Stockhausen, executive director at AmCham, to Wayne Chai, president of the JGA.
Two hundred thousand dollars come directly from the golf classic, while the other $50,000 is a donation from the Golf Channel, which was approached by Columbus Business Solutions to make the donation.
At the presentation of the cheque Stockhausen said that the amount of $250,000 is the single biggest contribution to a charity from the proceeds of the annual golf classic. She said that the organisers were extremely happy to be able to make the contribution to the programme to make it bigger and stronger in the future.
Chai indicated that the programme will see the addition of three new schools — Treadegar Park Primary in St Catherine, Denham Town Primary and Constant Spring Primary School.
This is in addition to the current three schools, which are St Anne’s Primary, St Aloysius Primary, and Jesse Ripoll Primary schools. He said that the In The City Golf Programme had already helped over 250 children in the three schools to learn the game where it is currently offered, and that the funds will help greatly to increase its penetration in the schools.
Chai said the programme will provide long-term benefit for the country as the young ones can, over time, receive scholarships and get other opportunities which can be derived from playing the game.
