Paul Thompson aiming to take Jamaica to the top
IF Jamaica is to finally regain hold of the Hoerman Cup, symbol of Caribbean male golfing supremacy, this year, then a lot will rest on the slender shoulder, of National Amateur Champion Paul Thompson.
The Championships will be staged at the Mahogany Run Golf Course, St Thomas, US Virgin Islands, from August 4-11.
Thompson, one of the most talented players on the local circuit, is back with a bang after taking a few years break from the game. Since his return, he has been the man in form, copping the national title and also emerging the top qualifier at the trials to select the national amateur team.
The top player has a calm demeanour, but on the course is a tiger and one of the most competitive players on the local circuit. No wonder he idolises Tiger Woods as a golfer.
“My aim is to help Jamaica bring home the cup,” Thompson said in an interview. “We have the talent and the skills and if we work hard we will be there with a strong chance at the finish.”
