LIME takes over sponsorship of ISSA schoolboy football
Telecommunication provider LIME has replaced fierce rival Digicel as the new and sole sponsor of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) schoolboy football.
On Friday, the eve of the start of the 2013 season, ISSA has announced that it has secured a new title sponsor in a press release.
Dr Walton Small, president of ISSA, disclosed that ISSA negotiated a multi-year deal with LIME.
The agreement will see LIME as title sponsor for the Manning Cup, daCosta Cup, Ben Francis Cup, Walker Cup and Olivier Shield competitions which start this September.
“I am pleased to confirm and welcome LIME as lead sponsor for our high school football competition. We are very excited about the innovative plans that LIME will be bringing to the country’s premier football tournament,” said Small.
Formerly co-title sponsored by Pepsi/Gatorade and LIME’s competitor Digicel, the previous three-year sponsorship arrangement saw both entities sharing the lead sponsorship rights. Under this new agreement LIME will now be the sole title sponsor.
“We are proud to come on board the ISSA LIME schoolboy football competition, which is the largest and most popular tournament of its kind in the region,” said Carlo Redwood, LIME vice-president, marketing.
As usual, ISSA did not divulge the financial details of the deal. However, last season the sponsorship package was about $40million combined.
Digicel in their third and final season had pumped in $17million, the same as Pepsi Jamaica through its brand Gatorade, while associate sponsor Restaurants of Jamaica (KFC) pumped in $5million in their final year in 2012.
