Lady Foreman rules in Grooms’ feature
LADY FOREMAN burst out of a closing pack in midtrack to hold the advantage to the line in the $92,000 Grooms’ Association of Jamaica claiming feature at Caymanas Park yesterday.
Owned by Raymond Townsend and ridden by jockey Aaron Chatrie for trainer Lorne Kirlew, Lady Foreman was sent off as a 4-1 betting option in the field of 13 in the claiming spread $350,000 – $300,000.
One of the highlights of the Grooms’ Association 10-race card, the imported filly held the 23-1 chance Lovetta Jones by one-half length, to win the 1,000 metres straight race in a time of 59.0 seconds.
Lovetta Jones was ridden by claiming apprentice Kuri Powell. Jaylen, a 15-1 shot ridden by Richard Mitchell, was third.
Trainer Richard Azan and champion jockey Dane Nelson combined to share training and riding honours by posting two winners on the card — Janiboutice, the 1-5 favourite in the first race, and Doc Holiday in the third for owners Elite Bloodstock Limited.
Champion trainer Wayne DaCosta and former champion jockey Dick Cardenas continued their winning combination with Exotic Gold, who won the Overnight Allowance Robert Wedderburn event, the highest-rated race on the programme.
The $80,000 Track Price Plus ‘Digout Handicap’ Race #60 over 1,100 metres was won by the 3-1 bet Tatty’s Bag Girl ridden by Paul Francis for trainer Devon Vanriel and Soldier Camp.
