Davis has positive outlook on U15 Boyz
Jamaica’s youth football coach Fabian Davis has a positive outlook on the squad currently preparing for the inaugural CONCACAF Under-15 competition to be held in the Cayman Islands.
But Davis, a former Reggae Boy, added that plenty of work is needed before the team departs for the August 14-25 tournament.
“In the short space of time I have to work with them they are pretty much talented. They have a basic understanding of the game and that’s what I’m looking for,” said the recently appointed Under-15 tactician.
“There is also a lot of work to be done with these players. Basic principles of the game and touches on the ball and those things need to be corrected. (We are) working on our organisation on the pitch, when we have the ball, when we don’t have the ball (and) team shape,” Davis added.
The 25-member squad, which includes 22 outfield players and three goalkeepers, is scheduled to join a two-week camp starting this weekend. A total of 18 players will be selected for the competition.
Davis said he and other coaches within the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) scouted the country seeking the top Under-15 players.
“A couple coaches, who are a part of the [national] setup and I, went out and tried to get the best players from around the island. The group I have right now is not bad and each day the quality of play has improved. They are growing slowly together,” he explained.
Davis, a schoolboy coach and former interim Arnett Gardens club team trainer, is an Advanced Level I and II graduate under the JMMB/JFF/University of Technology coaching school. In 2012, he was sent by the local federation to an FA and CONCACAF international coaching course.
