Santos, Constant Spring Masters tackle New York Masters teams today
SANTOS Masters will play Santos of New York at 6:00 pm , while Constant Spring Masters will meet Lions United at 7:30 pm today at the Constant Spring Football Field.
The New York-based Lions United FC, made up primarily of former Rusea’s daCosta Cup players, have been making goodwill summer tours to Jamaica every year since 2002, playing games against several local teams. They arrived in Jamaica on July 11, and lost 1-0 to Manchester Masters in the feature match of a triple header last Sunday at Kirkvine Sports Club. In other matches played, Limers of New York lost 1-0 to Los Perfectos and Santos of New York and Kirkvine Masters drew 0-0.
The Manchester Infirmary received gifts of wheelchairs, walkers, canes and medical supplies, including blood and glucose pressure machines.
The Lions went to Hanover, last Wednesday and lost 4-1 to Hanover Masters. Former National player Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis was honoured by the Lions of New York.
Their team for today’s match will comprise Dirks Brown, Eddie Sainmerville, Cliffon King, Dexter Davis, Lecroft Barnaby, Norman Simms, Michael Reid and Lance Peterson.
Constant Spring Masters will look to Brenton Smith, captain Kirk Williams, Raymond Smith, Fabian Watkins, Lincoln Taffe, Austin Brown, Oniel ‘Chippy’ McDonald and Craig White.
Santos of New York will try to avenge last year’s 2-0 defeat by Santos of Jamaica, and will look to Neville Brown, Glendon Curry, brothers Donald and Garnett Appleton, Michael Forten, Paul Hamilton and Lancefeild Barham for victory. Santos Masters of Jamaica will have goalkeeper Russell Hosang, Deputy Governor Livingstone Morrison, Nigel Morrison, Delroy Johnson, George Stephen, Winston Pusey, Barrington Planter, Ian Burnett and captain Kirk White in their line-up. A presentation ceremony will proceed both matches in which schools from both communities will be given gifts from Lions of New York Football Team.
