JOCKEY Dick Cardenas has seemingly returned to form with a triple on last Saturday’s card, Marci The Butcher, Hupomone and Prescription, followed by a nice double on Wednesday Miss May and Raging Prospect. Cardenas is now in third position in the jockey’s championship behind leader Omar Walker and Dane Nelson.
A heavy weight has been lifted from the back of former top apprentice Doushane Gordon. After excelling as a claiming apprentice Gordon has fallen on hard racing times. Since the start of the year he only found the entrance to the winners’ enclosure in the ninth race on Wednesday when he piloted Searching For Gold to victory. This was his 37th ride for the season.
Trainer Welsh Soutar has provided racing fans with some spanking winners in the past. His luck has not been the best since the start of the year. That changed on Wednesday when he saddled his first winner for 2013, Fly For Pleasure. It was his 61st start for the year.
There were two claims recorded on the 10-race programme on Wednesday last. Trainer Harry Parsard claimed Deliciosa for himself while trainer Ryan Darby claimed I’m All Wright for owner Raphael Gordon.
Five first-time runners make their debut tomorrow at the Park. All are two years old and all run in the day’s first race. They are Mom Rules (Crucial Trial – Sakena by Prospector’s Bid) trained by Gary Subraite; Cigaretteintherain by War Marshall – Lady Suhaagraat by Sir Lal Bahadur trained by Dale Murphy; Cheers sire not listed – Angela’s Favorite by Orientate trained by Richard Azan; Nelson’s Candy (Film Director – More Candy by Natural Selection) trained by Lorenzo Robinson and Gold Price (Shuffling Madness – Lurwish) trained by Lorenzo Robinson.
