Let’s Rock ‘A’ Way in Dr Clifford Grey Mem Cup
CONSISTENT performing filly Rock ‘A’ Way, with three second-place finishes from as many career starts, is presented a splendid opportunity to open her winning account among fellow three-year-old maidens in the $715,000 Dr Clifford Grey Memorial Cup feature at Caymanas Park today.
The maiden special weight contest, the fourth race on a 10-race midweek card, has attracted a field of 11 starters going 1,300 metres. The day’s highlighter that is set among a number of promising native-bred colts, geldings and fillies, promises to be hotly contested with post time scheduled at approximately 3:00 pm with first post at 1:30 pm.
Rock ‘A’ Way, a chestnut filly by Hail Orphan out of Rock ‘N’ Roll (Al’s River Cat) bred Phillip A Azar and owned by Everglades Farms Ltd, has been showing noticeable promise over varying distances since her debut race over 1,000 metres round as a three-year-old on New Year’s Day.
Prepared for her races by one of the top trainers at the Park, Anthony Nunes, has gone to show her versatility by also placing second going 1,400 and 1,600 metres, respectively, in her second and third starts.
In her last run over 1,600 metres, she was clobbered by 8 1/2 lengths, but this was by the out-of-class Princess Shaneil. With three solid races under her girth, Rock ‘A’ Way has been readied once more for battle and after the daughter of Hail Orphan has aptly demonstrated that ability to sprint and stay, trainer Nunes has put on the visors. This no doubt to add that bit more sharpness to her step with the distance reduced.
Jockey Dane Nelson, who is on the verge of being a one-year champion jockey and who was aboard Rock ‘A’ Way for her last two outings, will again ride.
Among rivals that are anticipated to make a race of it are the bay filly Ettu Oracle who, like Rock ‘A’ Way, is also running for the fourth time; the also well-bred dark bay colt Humble Lion who, like Rock ‘A’ Way has finished second three times, albeit from nine starts and the chestnut gelding Legendary Pleasure, who is yet to finish higher than third but has shown enough to improve on his earlier placings.
