Wisynco advance to quarter-final of BHFA KO
WISYNCO secured their spot in the quarter-final round of the Scotiabank-sponsored Kingston & St Andrew Business House Football Association Knockout Competition with an emphatic 4-0 drubbing of Carib Cement on Monday at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
Prolific goal scorer Girvon Brown netted a three-timer with Clifton Berry adding the other. After a slow start and a few missed chances, Brown opened the scoring in the 36th minute. Carib Cement should have equalised just before the half ended when Jermaine Rowe was sent on goal, but an alert Kelso Cousins in goal for Wisynco saved his effort.
Brown scored his second in the 62nd minute, before Berry got his name on the score sheet in the 77th minute, followed two minutes later by Brown. Also on Monday, Red Stripe, with goals from Norado Brown and Ricardo Dixon, defeated Island Special Constabulary Force 2-1 with Anthony Lawson scoring for the losers.
On Wednesday, first-time entrant Metrodade Protection created the first upset of the season when they defeated former champion Gleaner Company 3-2, with Corey Burke scoring twice and Paul Francis once, while Fabian Nethersole and Keiron Brock scored for Gleaner. In another game, University of the West Indies defeated Jamaica Fire Brigade 2-1 with Andre Bernal and Dave Pinnock scoring for the winners, and Kevin Frater for the losers.
Three other quarter-finalists will be known today when Bank of Jamaica play National Continental Corporation at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex; defending champions Petrojam play Grace Kennedy at Tinson Pen; and Jamaica Customs oppose Xerox at Red Stripe Oval.
National Commercial Bank host Jamaica Urban Transit Company at Ardenne High School in a rescheduled first-round game, with the winner to play Scotiabank Group to decide the eighth team. All games begin at 3:30 pm.
The quarter-final games are tentatively scheduled for August 5-7, with the semi-final slated for August 10.
