Corinaldi toast of LIME football awards
Several outstanding individual and team performances were recognised at the LIME/INSPORTS Primary League Awards Ceremony, held at the LIME Sports Club on Wednesday.
The ceremony brought the curtains down on this year’s third season, won by St James’ Corinaldi Primary.
It is also the final of a three-year $60 million contract between telecoms giant LIME and state agency Institute of Sports.
The competition, inaugurated in 2010, has been an “exceptional journey”, says LIME’s sponsorship manager Stephen Miller, who also indicated his desire to “continue working with the programme in the future”.
Season three saw the largest number of participation yet with 405 schools taking part.
Corinaldi, coached by former international cricket umpire Steve Bucknor, joined 2010 champs St Elizabeth’s Lacovia Primary and 2011 winners Holy Family Primary of Kingston, as the only teams to lift the island’s most coveted Under-13 football trophy.
Institute of Sports Administrative Director Ian Andrews, says despite “all the negatives” the agency has achieved a lot in recent years.
