South Koreans share culture
THE Republic of Korea’s performance arts show, Arirang Rhapsody, came to a rousing close at the Courtleigh Auditorium, St Andrew, last Thursday.
The three-day festival started on the Tuesday.
Kimo Lim, Republic of Korea’s [South Korea’s] ambassador to Jamaica, said he was pleased with the staging.
“We brought the event here to Jamaica with the hope that Jamaicans would enjoy the blend of traditional and modern Korean culture. It has been more successful than we could have ever imagined,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
Arirang Rhapsody, billed as Korean traditional music and contemporary dance performance, featured traditional Korean music as done by Noreum Machi, and B-Boy dance group Just Dance.
The musical quintet Noreum Machi went over well with the packed auditorium engaging the crowd with their playing of Korean traditional instruments while educating the audience on aspects of their culture.
Just Dance easily lived up to their name as the group, made up of members from several of Korea’s top modern dance crews, continued to raise the energy with each performance set.
