Jamaican Dustin Brown defeats top-ranked Hewitt at Wimbledon
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former Jamaican Davis Cup representative Dustin Brown advanced to the third round of Wimbledon this morning after beating Australian former world number one tennis player Lleyton Hewitt in four sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-2.
The dreadlocked Brown who was born in Germany but grew up in Montego Bay represented Jamaican in Davis Cup up to a few years ago. He switched to represent Germany and was qualifying for Wimbledon for the third straight time but has never won a match until this season.
The 189th ranked Brown who was last in Jamaica in December where he took part in an exhibition match in Montego Bay struggled to control his emotion after his historic win. He had beaten Spain’s G Garcia-Lopez in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 in the first round on Monday.
“Did all that just happen”, #crieddlikealilgirl and #rastamanrundiworld, Brown tweeted after the match.
