Blasting them away
IN one minute 24 and a fifth seconds, the imported four-year-old bay colt Blast Them Away established himself firmly as one of the best horses presently running at Caymanas Park.
Allowing lumps of weight to his five rivals in a 1400-metre even, the Eros Trophy on Saturday last, Blast Them Away under strong urging from Dane Nelson started a sustained and compelling run from the three furlong marker to decisively catch and beat leader Reasonable Press who he was allowing seven kilogrammes or approximately 16 pounds.
Blast Them Away in winning his tenth race from 14 lifetime starts firmly established himself as a horse of ‘A’ quality and second only to reigning horse-of-the-year, St. Cecelia. The final time of 1:24.1 posted by Blast Them Away was just two fifth of a second slower than the stakes record held by Wantin An Havin established in December of 1998.
There is the strong possibility that Blast Them Away and St. Cecelia will meet in the next three weeks over the five straight course. This conjures a mind boggling sprint duel with the filly St. Cecelia having bragging rights after her victory by half-a-length over Blast Them Away on May 25.
