OX promises natural fabulosity
SUZANNE Wilson’s well-kept hair is perhaps testament to the products that she makes.
Using the all natural, OX branded oils, preconditioning treatment, and rejuvenating mist that are produced by her company, she hasn’t had to relax her hair in over two years.
The owner of Organix Xtreme feels she has to prove to women that their hair can look “fabulous”, without having to use synthetic chemicals.
Incidentally, when she set out to figure out a solution to her own hair woes four years ago, she didn’t even plan to establish a business, much less wanting to market products locally and overseas.
“I was getting my hair relaxed and all these different things done and yet I wasn’t pleased,” said Wilson. “It was then that I started to do research, trying to mix ingredients and testing them in my hair, until one day I did it and couldn’t believe the result.”
It was only after using it for some time and persons began to ask for the product that she said she would start a business.
She now distributes to a few salons and stores, and even have persons living overseas requesting the hair products.
To complement the preconditioner, which strengthens and provides body to the hair, and the rejuvenator — a leave-in mist that hydrates hair between shampoos — Organix also does satin headwear — scrunchies, scarfs, bonnets, Velcro wraps for women with very short hair, and pillow cases.
“Satin is the best thing for the hair,” said Wilson. “It stops friction, it doesn’t absorb moisture, while cotton makes hair dryer and women hair get caught in it.”
She intends to include a shampoo and conditioner to complete her line within a couple of years, and plans to move her operations out of her home, where she currently makes the products, into a factory.
Wilson also wants to go into skincare, which may be a natural fit to the profession she has had over the last two decades — make-up art.
In the meantime, the business is holding its own, she says, although getting some of the ingredients can be difficult from time to time.
