The feedback so far is that the course will be fully subscribed of golfers including Men Under-50, Men 50 and Over, ladies, junior and corporate teams. The excitement has been building all week with well over half of the golfers already completing their registration.
David Mais, the tournament director, indicated that the golf course was in great shape and that should be improved further as the event draws nearer. He said the managers at Caymanas has done a great job preparing the golf course for the Columbus Business Solutions/AMCHAM Golf Classic. He also said that the tournament, now in its fourth staging, is a highly anticipated tournament on the golf calendar.
Celsa Nuno was the overall winner last year. Men Under-50 went to Trevin Chin-Pin. Larry Lodenquai took the Men Over 50 category, while the junior category went to Russell Wilson-Spence.
According to Becky Stockhausen, CEO of AmCham and the organising committee, plans are well underway for a successful tournament. She said that over half of the golfers had already completed their registration and collected their tee gifts. She also said the organisers had secured several prizes, including airline tickets, weekends for two, spa certificates, electronic appliances, as well as trophies for the various winners.
This year, part-proceeds of the tournament will go towards the In The City Golf Junior Programme, which is administered by the Jamaica Golf Association. The programme seeks to teach inner-city children the game, as well as expose them to another sport. The schools in the programme have indicated great improvement in the behaviour of the children since it started.
