Seaview FC, Lilliput Rovers promoted
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Seaview FC will return to the top flight of St James Football Association’s club football, while Lilliput Rovers will play in the Senior League for the first time after both earned promotion, with wins in the Dennis Barton/Weston King Division One semi-finals on Monday.
Seaview FC, once one of the best teams in St James and a former Premier League contender, beat Mountain Villa 1-0 on aggregate in one semi-final tie, while Lilliput Rovers survived a furious come back from Marl Road in their tie.
The teams earned automatic qualification by virtue of qualifying for the finals and will replace Granville City and Rosemount, which are the relegated teams.
The bottom placed team from each of the first round zones will be relegated.
Granville City ended with 14 points in Zone A, while Rosemount, which failed to win any of their 16 games, ended with four points in Zone B in their first season back in the Senior League.
On Monday, Jerome Tulloch scored twice for Marl Road to level the aggregate scores at 3-3, forcing extra -time at the Wyndham field, after Lilliput had won the first leg 3-1, last week.
Tulloch scored in the 19th and 65th minutes for Marl Road, but neither team was able to score in the two periods of extra -time, as Lilliput won 4-3 on penalties.
Seaview had won the first game 1-0 and their 0-0 draw at Flanker on Monday, was enough to see them though to the finals that will be played tomorrow and June 30.
Meanwhile, Lilliput Rovers will go into the finals with a psychological edge, having beaten Seaview 2-1 and then drawn 0-0 in their two meetings this season.
Both teams played in the same zone in the first round and Lilliput Rovers won with 18 points– winning five games and drawing the other three to finish ahead of Seaview, who won four games, drew one and lost three, just edging Copperwood and Salt Spring Roses on goal difference for a place in the semi-finals.
All three teams finished on 13 points, but Seaview had a goal difference of eight, Salt Spring Roses had two and Copperwood zero.
