Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth — Black Star FC was crowned champions of the St Elizabeth Football Association Wray & Nephew Major League after completing an 8-3 aggregate victory over Newell FC .
Black Star actually lost the second leg of the two-tie at the Appleton Sports Ground 3-2 on June 9. However their 6-0 margin of victory over Newell in the first leg on June 2 meant they were never in danger.
In the second leg, Black Star took the lead in the fifth minute through Xavier Harvey.
Newell’s Delojay Linton equalised in the 29th minute but Kareem Lewis scored two minutes later to again give Black Star the upper hand.
However, Lyngarley Vassell and Charlton Myers scored unanswered goals in the 69th and 73rd minute to hand Newell a face-saving win.
In the first leg on June 2, Ricardo Reid, Dwyane Brown, Lamar McKenzie, Xavier Harvey, Alan Fletcher and Kareem Lewis had all scored to seal the deal for Black Star.
The triumph means Black Star is now eligible for the South Central Super League should that competition be still in place for the 2013-2014 season.
