St Ann school named in Bob Marley’s honour
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Government has given the go ahead for the Stepney Primary and Junior High school in St Ann to be renamed the Bob Marley Primary and Junior High School, effective September 1, 2013.
The change in name is a tribute to the late reggae icon Robert Nesta Marley, a past student of the institution. The school which serves the communities of Stepney, Nine Miles, Eight Mile, Prickly Pole, Murray Mountain, Grants Mountain and Scarbough, has a population of 300 students between the ages of six and 15.
Information minister Sandrea Falconer who made the announcement during the Jamaica House press briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister Thursday morning, said the Bob Marley Foundation has been very active in the school through the granting of scholarships and resource materials.
“Members of the community and the Bob Marley Foundation have endorsed the name change,” Falconer said.
