MoBay folk express mixed feelings about ‘Tappa’s’ resignation
The Jamaica Observer Observer took to the streets of Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore’s heartland of Montego Bay to get reactions about his decision to quit as Reggae Boyz head coach after the team’s 2-0 loss to Honduras in that country on Tuesday night.
1. Vernon Reid:
I don’t believe Tappa can be held responsible for the Reggae Boyz getting so many beatings based on the fact that Captain Horace Burrell is the person who travelled all over finding players and refusing to believe that Jamaica had players. Each time we go and import players we not going anywhere.
2. Antoinette Hylton:
I am not saying he must not resign or whatever, but it is full time they performed better.
3. Michel Reid:
I believe it’s a good move because of the chemistry in the camp and the team morale; players are not playing well and it is a good move as we changed the core of the team that we used in the semi-final round and brought in about seven to nine players for the final round and that might have affected the morale of the team. I don’t think he should have resigned in the middle of the final round, but who knows? We might have a miracle.
4. Kimberly Curtis:
He hasn’t been doing a good job. I don’t know if it is the people who are picking the team for him. I think he should pick a Premier League team and take them to different countries so if the overseas players are not doing well they can be used. He should resign after this World Cup and we should bring back Rene Simoes and also use Neville ‘Bertis’ Bell to be the coach of the national team. I can see we won’t be qualifying for this World Cup, so we will have to try for the next one.
5. D Turner:
I think Whitmore should have retired long time ago because the players are not playing the right way and we need better coaches to coach the team to perform better. He should also use more of the local-based players to build up the team more properly.
6. Michelle Sawe:
I don’t think Tappa should resign. Things happen and the ball is round so the ball roll wherever it wants to go; he should get another chance and should not resign at all.
