JNA boss urges sports people to strive for excellence
The president of the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA), Marva Bernard, in addressing the launch ceremony of the Kingston and St Andrew Community T-Twenty Sports Community Competition, has said that competitive excellence requires individuals to give 100 per cent at all the times.
Directing her comments at the young people who will be engaged in Fast Five Netball, Nine-a-side football and T/20 Cricket, Bernard told the gathering at Mandela Park recently, that striving for excellence, though not easy, was always a choice one could make in reaching for success.
“Your level of performance is your choice. You can settle for mediocrity or strive for excellence. You must seek continual improvement. Practise self-discipline and maintain high standards for yourself.”
The JNA president added: “The major goal for our administration is not only to produce the best netball team in the world, but also to stimulate the continued growth of the sport by the work we intend to do in the communities.
“Our programme is holistic. The development of our youth through sports is a part of nation building. It was former Prime Minister PJ Patterson who said that we must continue to promote sports as one of the vehicles for human development.
“The JNA club leagues are important to us, as our national players get to hone their skills in these club leagues. For those persons who don’t want to be national players, but love netball, the leagues afford them the opportunity to play for fun and win some money.”
