Nosworthy’s long road to recovery
SIDELINED Reggae Boyz defender Nyron Nosworthy says his “recovery is going good” after he suffered a long-term injury almost three months ago.
Nosworthy picked up a ruptured Achilles to his right leg during the first half of a somewhat rambunctious World Cup Football Qualifier between Jamaica and Panama at the National Stadium in March.
Speaking to the Jamaica Observer as he watched his teammates stumbled to a 0-1 home defeat to Mexico on Tuesday, the player, whose Watford FC finished third in the English Championship division in the just ended 2012-13 season, gave an update on his rehabilitation.
“The recovery is going good right now. I’m four weeks ahead of schedule, so things are looking up. I’m off the crutches and I’m actually walking now and doing a lot of ankle work. It’s a positive thing and hopefully I should be in action soon,” he said.
According to the medical report at the time, the injury would take six weeks to heal and a possible further two and a half months of rehabilitation for him to regain full fitness.
The 32-year-old, capped 10 times for the Reggae Boyz, said the road to recovery has been a steep one.
“It’s a ruptured Achilles so it’s like the lower ankle and it doesn’t allow much movement.
“In the beginning it was slow you know, real slow and frustrating. After a time I had to just relax and meditate. The staff done really good to massage it and look after it so I could slowly get some sort of movement.
“Once I could do that I started to walk and do some exercises to basically keep my fitness up… that was the main thing,” he told the Observer, while explaining that though in Jamaica supporting the Boyz, he is strictly following the regimen outlined by his physiotherapist back in England.
Nosworthy had formed a rock solid partnership at the heart of Jamaica’s defence alongside his former clubmate Adrian Mariappa. The pair’s unique chemistry played an important role in Jamaica’s historic draw away to Mexico in February.
