Soothing set from Cure
JAMAICANS needed a cure following the 1-0 loss to Mexico in the World Cup qualifier at the National Stadium in St Andrew on Tuesday night.
Many found respite at Usain Bolt’s Tracks and Records in St Andrew, where reggae singer Jah Cure was the featured act in the new season of Behind the Screen live music series.
Scheduled for 10:30 pm, the show’s 11:45 pm start allowed for sad and dejected football fans to make their way to the club and drown their sorrows in the dreadlocked singer’s soulful music.
Cheers greeted the diminutive singer as he made his way to the stage of a packed house which had begun challenging the venue’s air conditioning.
For the next one-and-a-half hours, it would be non-stop music from ‘The Cure’ as he delivered a string of his popular, and not-so-popular tracks.
Accompanied by his new six-piece aggregation and three backing vocalists, the artiste, whose given name is Siccature Alcock, delivered tracks including Freedom, Sunny Day, Sticky, which were well received. The sound of cheers and whistles grew louder when he sang his breakout hit Longing For.
He continued with Nuh Build Great Man, Jah Jah City, Rastaman Chant, Divide and Rule, You’ll Never Find and Searching.
The sweltering heat would force the artiste to remove his black jacket to reveal a sweat-soaked white cotton shirt.
He continued with hits What Will It Take, Call on Me, and Love Means. He wrapped up his set with Unconditional Love.
Throughout Jah Cure’s performance, his wife, television personality Kamila McDonald, who was located on the mezzanine floor, supported him with cheers.
The artiste, who said he is currently working on an acoustic and a lover’s rock albums, was pleased with the appreciative audience.
“I anticipated the audience would appreciate the set, so I came to give it my best… I’m really happy how it turned out,” he said, adding that he is preparing to tour with his new band under the direction of new manager Robert Livingston.
The Behind the Screen series continues next Tuesday with the quartet LUST.
