La’s Dancer an irresistible pick
LA’S Dancer, recent upset winner, is among a number of $180,000 claimers who are poised to improve their win record in the $438,000 Dr David ‘Jack’ Radix Memorial Cup claiming feature at Caymanas Park today.
The Dr ‘Jack’ Radix highlighter of the nine-race card on offer has attracted a field of eight starters. Grouped among three-year-olds upward and native-bred six-year-olds (NW3) who have started for purse of $180,000 since 2013, the third race on the programme will go to post at approximately 2:45 pm going 1,820 metres. First post at 1:45 pm.
La’s Dancer, a nine-year-old chestnut gelding by Royal Minister out of Lady Anandi (Big Prince) bred by Jaghai OD, JP Henry William is the most successful campaigner among the field with 13 wins from 77 career starts.
La’s Dancer was a highly thought of three-year-old when conditioned by Philip Feanny, but a mitigating gate habit appeared to have prevented him from realising his true potential at a higher level. Hence, his lower-end level of campaigning at present.
Despite this, however, if his present upset win at odds of 99-1 going short of his best at 1,100 metres is any worthwhile evidence to go by then winning the ‘Jack’ Radix going 1,820 metres should be a cinch for the gelded son of Royal Minister, who is much better suited to the two-turn sprint distance than his rivals when his legs are in good order.
Owned by Anthony H Chin and trained by Anthony Subratie, La’s Dancer will come in at 54.0kg for the 3.0kg claiming apprentice Orlando Foster.
Should La’s Dancer fail to justify his good showing on last, a number of runners among his rivals seem poised to fill the void.
Sandbath, a five-year-old bay mare trained by Nicholas Edwards for owner The Arabs, has been knocking at the door for some time now and should again be making a brave bid albeit he will again have face nemesis Cause For Concern, who ran her out of it close.
When these two last met, Cause For Concern had a 4.5kg advantage but there is a weight swing in favour of Sandbath, who come in on this occasion with 55.0kg after stepping down from two fair efforts among none winners of two with the in-form jockey Percy Williams replacing regular jockey Ameth Robles, who is recovering from a fractured right hand.
In the meantime, Cause For Concern has since changed stables after moving over to the stables of trainer Joseph Thomas and has picked up 6.5kg after stepping back down from a fair effort among $250,000 claimers.
