IT was a festive atmosphere inside the Karl Hendrickson Auditorium at Jamaica College Sunday, where popular personalities turned out for the 13th Powerful Men and Women Perform for Charity show.

The concert benefits the Mustard Seed Communities which cares for abandoned and disabled children as well as the elderly.

Father Gregory Ramkissoon, founder and executive director at Mustard Seed Communities, sang the organisers praises.

“I think with all the problems we are going through this is a positive sign. We should continue this and send a message that Jamaica cares,” Father Ramkissoon told the Jamaica Observer.

Standout performance came from the Fantastic Four of Dimario McDowell, Emerson Henry, Michael Powell, and Maurice Henry who delivered a medley of Rhythm and Blues songs including The Manhattans’ Kiss and Say Goodbye and Words and Music by Tavares.

This earned them the evening’s only encore. The International Youth Fellowship did a creditable take on Psy’s Gangnam Style dance while actress Sherando Ferril earned chuckles with her rendition of Love Letta, a ditty about a cheating boyfriend.

Parliamentarian Lloyd B Smith’s set as The Fluffy Don was hilarious. His dance moves and wisecracks also went over well.

It was not all song and dance. There were classy outfits from designers Jaya Designs, Indigo Soul Kaftans, Paula Hurlock, Sophia Max Brown, Angella’s Collections and Beautiful Brides and Mr Tux.

Among the models were journalist Christine King, Michelle Wilson-Reynolds, radio personality Roxene Nickle-Alveranga and TV host Kerri-Ann ‘Kiki’ Thombs.

Conceptualiser Thyra Heaven was pleased with the show.

“Being able to do something positive for those children of Mustard Seed, I get a great high,” she said.

Other performers included Janet Silvera, Tanice Morrison, Robert deMercardo — who did a great Elvis Presley impression; film producer Barbara Blake-Hannah and Dr Michael Abrahams.
