Odds stacked against Reggae Boyz
JAMAICA’S senior national football team is certainly facing tough odds to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
However, should the Reggae Boyz manage to clinch a spot in next year’s tournament, punters who back the Boyz to advance, should be smiling all the way to the bank after the qualifying round is completed. The Reggae Boyz are now listed at odds of 4.75 (or 15/4) to make it to the World Cup, according to the latest odds released by JustBet, the sports betting brand from Supreme Ventures.
Jamaica are listed at odds of 1.10 (or 1/10) not to qualify for the tournament.
JustBet has also released odds on the Reggae Boyz’ next World Cup qualifying match against bitter rivals Mexico at the National Stadium on Tuesday June 4. Jamaica are favoured at odds of 3.75 (or 11/4) to bag all three points, while Mexico are favoured at odds of 1.80 (or 4/5) to secure a win at The Office. Odds of a draw are 3.30 (or 23/10).
The Boyz are currently last in the CONCACAF group of six with just two points from three matches and seven matches still to play. The top three teams at the end of group play will advance to the 2014 FIFA World Cup, while the fourth-placed side will go into an intercontinental play-off for one of the last remaining spots in the tournament. Jamaica earned a shock 0-0 draw against Mexico in Mexico City to begin the fourthround group play, which was followed by a 1-1 home draw against Panama, and then a deflating 2-0 away defeat to Costa Rica.
Incidentally, Mexico have also had an ordinary run so far in the final round of qualifiers, currently sitting second to last in the group with just three points from the three matches played so far.
“The odds are really stacked against the Reggae Boyz making it to Brazil next year, but whether they do advance to the Greatest Show on Earth or not, one thing JustBet punters will have the chance to cash in on all the remaining World Cup qualifying action in a big way,” said Andrei Roper, Senior Marketing Officer for sports betting at Supreme Ventures.
Persons can place their bets on the Reggae Boyz’ chances of qualifying for the World Cup, and on all the remaining World Cup qualifying matches, at any of the more than 100 JustBet locations islandwide.
