Thompson retains narrow lead at Seafreight National Amateur Golf Championships
FIRST day leader Paul Thompson added 10 shots to Friday’s score, but still managed to hold a narrow lead of two shots (150) ahead of Carl Bruce (152) in the Open Flight on the second day of the Seafreight National Amateur Golf Championships at the Caymanas Golf & Country Club.
Competitors were forced to take shelter after the round was suspended due to heavy rain, but JGA President Wayne Chai Chong had the lowest round of the day among the three-day competitors with 72, and is currently in third on 155. Mark and Jonathan Newnham are tied in fourth on 156.
JGA Vice-President Peter Chin is ahead of the A Flight with 163 (82, 81). On his heels is Ronan McGrane with 165, while in third place is George Hugh on 166.
Delroy Alcott is the new leader in B Flight with rounds of 94 and 84 (178). Stainton Baker lies second with 181, and Carlysle Hudson finished on 202 in the C Flight.
Michele Gabay bettered the first day score of 80 by one shot to hold on to the lead in the Ladies’ Open flight with 159. Rochelle Prince shot 81 and 84 to take second place on 165.
Tyler Fitt is the new leader in the boys’ 15 & under group with 82, 88 (170). Jordan Lowe is second on 172.
Meanwhile, Dennis Atkinson solidified his lead with 83 for a total of (161) in the Super Senior Open Flight. Opeton Marshall is second on 165 and Guyan Arscott is third with 169.
Khaleel Azan is on (84, 90) 174 in the second flight.
In the boys’ 13 & under category, Jack Stein took the lead with scores of 86 and 78 (164), followed closely by Justin Burrowes on 166, and Sebert Walker third on 170.
Kaitlin Robertson is currently on 182 (93, 89) in the girls’ 15 & under category, and Kei Harris leads the Under-13 junior girls with scores of 83 and 83 for a total of 166.
In the 36-hole Seafreight Flights Classic — a two-day tournament within the main event — Lindy Bartley showed his mettle by shooting 67 on the opening day. John O’Donoghue finished second with 80.
Sandals-based Edwin Lowe shot 80 and Phillip Gooden ended the day with 81 in the A Flight.
The final round of the competition tees off today at the Caymanas Golf & Country Club.
