Timeforarms lands ‘Bob’ Mayall feature
Timeforarms continued his rich vein of form when he took apart Open Allowance company to win the $786,500 LR ‘Bob’ Mayall principal Labour Day feature at Caymanas Park on Thursday.
But it was three-time champion jockey Andrew Ramgeet who added sparkle to the 10-race card by riding a double.
Ramgeet opened the programme aboard the imported 5-2 betting option Jada’sfabuloustour for trainer Gary Subratie and owner WB Racing. Riding his second mount on the programme, the 10-1 shot Persian Gold again for owners WB Racing and trainer Howard K Jaghai, Ramgeet was awarded the race in the Stewards’ room following the disqualification the 26-1 upset winner Judge Judy ridden by Dick Cardenas. Judge Judy was deemed to hinder Ramgeet’s mount in the stretch run.
Meanwhile, Timeforarms, the joint 8-5 favourite ridden by Paul Francis for trainer Fitzroy Glispie, who is also part owner with Gary G Lee-Sin, came running on after turning up the lane to win from the late closing 9-1 bet Uncle Donny, ridden by Omar Walker, by 2 1/4 lengths.
Taking full advantage of the light impost of 50.0kg, Timeforarms began his quest leaving the 1,000-metre pole to set down for the drive four wide. He was then brought forward by jockey Francis with his usual late kick before going on to overhaul leader and joint 8-5 favourite Classy Prospect entering the final 200 metres. He then kept on going to stifle the late charge of Uncle Donny. He ran 1,600 metres in a time of 1:39.2 minutes.
Classy Prospect, ridden by Dane Nelson, who exchanged the lead with stablemate New Kingston before being overhauled by the eventual winner, held on for third, with Willie Goldsmith, who was never worst than sixth, completed the frame as the 9-5 second choice under Shane Ellis in the field of seven.
A bay colt by Twilight Time (US) out of Armsofanangel (De Niro) bred Rentals & Moore, Timeforarms posted his sixth win from 18 career starts and earned $429,400 as the winner’s share for earnings of $3,160,450 lifetime.
Glispie, who also posted the 3-1 chance Sundown to a 3 1/2-length win in the previous eighth race with Richard Mairs up, was also the most successful trainer of the meet with two wins.
Also sharing riding honours with Ramgeet were jockeys Omar Walker and Richard Mairs.
Walker, the leading rider at the Park, had the leg up on Prince Theo in the third race for owner/trainer Raymond Townsend, and El Cliente in the seventh for trainer Gordon Lewis and owners Helican Syndicate. Mairs booted home the 3-2 chance Lady Bahin in the second race for trainer Patrick Fong, who was saddling his 200th winner at Caymanas Park. Mairs’ other win was aboard Sundown.
