Kingston Bookshop cop One-Day Challenge trophy
Kingston Bookshop won their first Catherine Peak/Western Sports-sponsored 5-A-Side One-Day Challenge trophy last Saturday at the NWC playing field, Mona, when they clipped Cari-Med 1-0 in the final.
Twenty four teams participated in this year’s renewal, and Kingston Bookshop walked away with $30,000, while runner-up Cari-Med received $15,000. Kingston Bookshop defeated former champions Peak Bottling 1-0 in the semi-finals, while Cari-Med stopped former champions Cable Pro Data Services 2-0 on penalties after a 0-0 full and extra time draw in the other, to advance. The final was a closely contested game, but Kingston Bookshop got the all-important goal from Barrington Price in the 24th minute. Deno Shaaffee of Kingston BookShop was the competition’s MVP, while Lawrence Richards of Island Grill was the leading goal scorer with five goals.
The league competition will kick off next Saturday with the traditional dress parade and a double header in Division One and Two at the NWC playing field, Mona, starting at 3:00 pm with 64 teams participating.
