Droop Lion roars out against child abuse
REGGAE singer Droop Lion has lashed out against violence against children in his latest single Ananda Alert.
The track, released in early part of May, is produced by Sajay Production.
The Ananda Alert System in Jamaica was designed to ensure a speedy and safe recovery of missing children.
“This song isn’t only fitting for Child Month but it is a sad reality that needs to be addressed. Sometimes these matters get brushed under the carpet, especially when it is incest. This is wrong,” he said.
According to Betty Ann Blaine, founder of the advocacy group Hear the Children’s Cry, said a huge number of children go missing throughout the island.
Established in November 2002, the Hear the Children’s Cry focuses on and works to eliminate the atrocities, abuses, neglect and traumatisation of Jamaican children.
“An average of 150 children go missing each month. However, about 80 per cent of these kids have returned home or has been found,” said Blaine.
Droop Lion, whose given name is Andrew Brown, is currently on a six-week tour of Europe.
He said most of his songs are based on reality.
“I want my music to be real. I have to sing about the real issues that take place in the society,” he said.
He is known for songs including Freeway, Lockdown, Long Way Down and Mama Soon Come Back, which was done for his mother that he had never met.
“I just pray that Jah keeps me balanced so that I can always sing some inspiring songs for people…I want to give solutions to the people, ” he said.
